Holiday Shopping Like a Celebrity

Holiday shopping is something that I used that I used to adore doing.  In high school it was easy to find gifts—all you needed were cheap t-shirts for a guy and a cute little stationary set for the girls.  Face it; it wasn’t thought that counted, but the amount of things you got.  Number of gifts = popularity.  Now as a grown-up, I’ve come to realize that my views on holiday shopping have changed.  It’s no longer about the amount of gifts I need to give; rather it seems to be focused on the amount the gift has cost me.

What to do if your budget is limited, but your friends’ taste has grown quite expensive?  What about buying them clothes that their favorite celebrities wear?   Most people equate celebrities with money and, by this logic, the fashions they wear must be expensive. Of course, I can’t afford to give out Prada and Miu Miu to everyone on my list, but what about the everyday clothes that stars wear?  I’ve read the store name Kitson time and time again on celebrity gossip blogs.  It seems to be a favorite shopping haunt for celebrities such as fashion icon Nicole Richie and actress Britanny Murphy.  I figured that not every superstar must spend $200 on each shirt they own and decided to check out the store online to see if my hunch was right.  Located in Los Angeles, this store is a shopping bag away for many trendy celebrities. For those of us who live a little farther away (like me, who lives on a rock, a.k.a. Hawaii), we can peruse the many goodies this store has to offer online. A quick Google ™ search led me to their website (www.shopkitson.com).

I’ve always been curious about the makers of those infamous “Team Aniston” and “Team Jolie” tees.  Was Kitson’s brand of cheek on basic shirts was as far as their fashion choices reached?  I was pleasantly surprised, however, to find a wide variety of clothing, not only limited to Kitson’s brand, but other famous brands as well.  I could choose from L.A.M.B., to Diesel with ease. With prices beginning at $28.00, I also found that I could afford to dress like I was rich and famous.  I even spotted the “Little Miss Sunshine” shirt that Britney Spears was wearing this last week and found that I could purchase a hoodie version just like it at Kitson for about $48.00.  They also offer a wide variety of accessories so you can purchase a handbag to go with that sunshine shirt.

Another thing I realized while shopping at the online store is that Kitson isn’t just a place to shop for women’s wear; you can also buy clothing for the men and kids in your life. Available to purchase are shirts, jackets, and even underwear for your man. Want your kids to dress like little Maddox Jolie, Kingston Rossdale or Suri Cruise? Kitson has an extensive line of kids clothing.  The tees range from Rolling Stones shirts for the boys to “Let Them Eat Cupcakes” in fuschia for the girls.

One of the most useful items on the website to shop like your favorite stars is“Kitson Latest Trends” tab.  This page holds thumbnails with captions telling you what Nicole Richie’s favorite Kitson item is (such as the “ Alice in Wonderland Leather Charm Bracelet”) and what their top sellers currently are.

So go ahead and shop online at Kitson this year for your Christmas gifts.  Just be sure to insert a picture of a celebrity wearing that shirt so your friends will think you spent a fortune on them!
