10 Ways to Pep Up Your Outfit

1. Invest in a few statement rings: pearls are an affordable, eye-catching item, while chunky costume jewels are a never-fail selection with the right evening outfit. If you're feeling sensitive towards spending just a little cash and you want your item to look pretty pricey, try off-color pearls (black or cream) or black glass cocktail ring. Avoid brighter colors, which tend to look cheaper.

2. Try a silk scarf. I know that scarves around the neck for fashion purposes, particularly for a younger crowd, aren't always a popular selection. I recommend checking out this example to change your mind.

3. Don't be afraid to add something bright to your otherwise plain outfit. Round up all your little black dresses and then grab the most colorful belts that you can find. Outfits for a week, easily! When you wear each black dress with different choes (boots, heels and flats), different stockings (patterned, opaque, and sheer) and different wraps, coats, and sweaters, nobody will be the wiser.

4. Select a simple shell. Sling it on underneath a black blazer (possibly an investment pieve from Chanel? You never know!) for a whole new look, and don't be afraid to go to the thrift store for a bargain piece, especially since it will remain half-covered by a separate. Some top selections include silky fabrics and brightly patterned items to catch the eye.

5. Mix your seasons. Look for those little open-weave summer slippers and wear them in the office over a pair of opaque black tights or a pair of tight-weave fishnet stockings. If that's a little too daring, any flats with a peep-hole for toe cleave will do.

6. Buy some new blush or mascara. Try an interesting earthy tone or something a little more pink, and give that super-plumping brush a whirl. No matter what you choose, you'll have a bounce in your step and look all the more sophisticated.

7. Consider giving yourself a glossing treatment. Instead of heading to the salon for something expensive, an affordable way to give yourself shine is to apply a clear gloss at home. This treatment does contain hydrogen peroxide, so proceed at your own risk! I have tried it on previously-dyed hair, and the results are subtle but effective, particularly if you heat-style your hair in the morning.

8. Get yourself some new shoes! If you're addicted to quality pieces and you won't settle for less, Saint Laurent pumps barely crest over $100, and you can take your pick at a nunber of discounted pairs at Macy's and more. If you basically live in black workwear, this is an easy way to make your whole ensemble look new, too.

9. Freshen up your look with a quick spray of perfume. It's not a visual pepping up, but it adds mystique and depth to your look just the same! Try something expensive but affordable, meaning a TJ Maxx or Marshall's find will do just perfectly.

10. Last but not least, a smile. Corny, huh? Too bad it works wonders!
