Shop in Your Closet, the Right Way
Are you broke and looking for a way to “shop in your closet”? It's not exactly the easiest thing to do, despite reports to the contrary, but I got pretty lucky recently in my shopping search, so it can be done. Here are a few things you might want to looks for, hidden away in the recesses of your closet, bureau, or wardrobe.
Oversized Tees, Sweaters, and Sweatshirts
Some of those “big tees” you used to hate can now be recycled back into your wardrobe, as I discovered in my bureau recently! Belt big tees with slim belts and low-slung hip sashes for the beach, casual daywear, and even movie night get-ups. Bring back a touch of Flashdance in your tees, but make them more modern and stylish.
Leggings
I've been wearing athletic leggings instead of fashion leggings, because they are longer-wearing and more figure-flattering. Grab Adidas cropped pants in black and navy, if you've been saving up exercise gear and haven't been getting inventive. It's also a great look with ballet flats and gladiator sandals.
Crop Tops and Tube Tops
These kinds of shirts never see the light of day, do they? I have at least six cropped shirts hanging out in my closet with nowhere to go--I've been cutting them into tanks and layering them over one another for a pop of color at home, as well as wearing them over cotton dresses like a vest. Best with gladiator shoes and ankle boots.
Cotton Dresses
Do you have any plain jane dresses? I have a bunch of floral print dresses and geometric shifts that seem too boring to wear on their own... but you can add just a little something on top to brighten things up. Invest in a simple vest from Old Navy or GAP to liven everything up--don't spend more than $20! You might want to also check out American Apparel.
Old Jeans
It's "jorts" time! Chop off the legs of your uggo jeans for instant style points.
