'70s Inspiration for Anyone

1970s inspiration is everywhere! Whether you are feeling like a vintage diva or you want to add some pep to your step with an accessory or two, you'll love the pieces you've found on the internet. '70s inspiration keeps coming around, and this time, I'm not going to give anything away. Until then. . . let's shop a bit on pieces that will be sticking around for some time, shall we?

For accessories, I will choose metallic earrings with some fringed detailing, or a bib-style necklace with little silver coins or beaded pieces. In Marie Claire's most recent issue, I recently saw that Hilary Swank was wearing some cool necklaces marked just as "vintage" in the pages of the magazine. Instead of trying to hit up a zillion thrift stores, why not just swing by eBay or Modcloth to find inspired selections of your own? It's a lot quicker, and I know that you can funnel that time into something more productive--perhaps styling up other pieces in your closet, for example?

Your shoes are another option for '70s additions to your wardrobe, and they blend well with denim and fall check shirts. Stuck for 1970s-design shoes? Wear clogs or vintage-inspired shoes, for example, or colored shoes with funky soles. Platforms and stacked heel shoes look amazing with wide-legged pants as well, and aren't just available at expensive shops, either. I like Zappos and Endless for my disco-era footwear!

Other affordable 1970s looks that are easy to get are simple tees, vests, peacoats, and cloaks. I've found that it's way easier to choose an affordable 1970s piece when you don't set yourself on one item from the get-go. Shop around at both contemporary and vintage stores and compare-contrast current prices. Can you handle a skirt instead of a dress, especially if it's on sale? Keep your options open and select pieces like a circle skirt, a wrap dress, an embroidered trapeze top, or a zippy pair of butt-hugging running shorts. Who knows what will flatter your body type until you really did in there, and what will look the hottest on someone like you.

Since it's going to be winter soon, you might want to skip all the jazz and go straight for the outerwear with '70s style--totally permitted! If you have enough in your budget for one awesome piece, look for a faux fur trimmed coat, a woolen Navy peacoat, a fur-lined suede jacket, or one of those extra-outdoorsy hunting vests in blue, green, or red. It's all pretty easy to pick up, will cost less when you factor in online deals, and will catapult you right back to a bygone age.
