What Can You Wear to a Party?

For some reason, "Tardy for the Party" got stuck in my head, which (while embarrassing) gave me an opportunity to work on my party clothes. With parties on the brain, I started concocting some great ideas about what to do with my existing wardrobe. Behold, a few of my best mix-and-match looks from my last brainstorming session.
Rhinestonevest

The Vest: Vests are certainly not your standard party gear, by any means. In fact, they are thought of as the anti-party piece, usually seen on business people, or at least someone's who is particularly interestedin being "serious." If you have a black vest, wear it without anything underneath, except maybe a low-cut or backless bra. With a high-waisted, flirty skirt underneath, nobody will be the wiser about you piecing together your new favorite party look.

The Trench Coat: I don't know why I don't wear my trench coat more often. It's such a darling piece to wear out when I don't know what to wear during the day, but I've never considered wearing mine over my party dress. Keep in mind that you can take off the self fabric belt and replace it with a comfortable buckled belt instead-- in a punchier color, too. Add a few pins and a sequined hat, and you can handle the weather with the best of them!

Gardenpartydress

The Garden-Party Frock: You probably own quite a few dresses with a sort of picnic vibe. Maybe you save them because you think they look too innocent, and then you never actually wear them. Have you considered vamping yours up a bit, or wearing one during the colder weather of winter. Choose a vintage-print dress, shorten the hemline, and wear it with thigh-high boots, or select a heavy cable-knit cardigan and wear it belted over your dress.

The Leggings: Remember when all we had to do was slick on a pair of liquid leggings and a tunic, and we were good to go? You can still do that now, just in a different way. Instead of wearing your liquid leggings along, pair them with your highest boots and a skirt, so that only a tiny peek shows. They are much warmer than tights, which means that you can rock them all over!

What do you usually wear when you go out?
