Mother’s Day Madness

The malls are as busy this week as they are for Christmas and sales are everywhere. But just what is the perfect gift for mom? The best thing to do is to try something unique, and stay away from the average flowers that will die in four days or perfume that she will not wear. Brainstorm back to the days where your mother was your hero and what you both enjoyed when you were both younger. Try your best to find something that will be sentimental to her and you as well and become a keepsake between the both for years to come. However, don’t skip out on all the big savings going on at the mall…use that for just for you.

By now you have already taken a look at your circular and you know just which stores have the deepest discounts on which days. While all the big department stores like Macy’s, Robinson’s May, Parisians, Bloomingdales and Dillard’s are having their all-weekend, one day, and spring clearance sales you can really stock up. Take this time to shop through each department and check all racks for items you may need all year. Right now because of Mother’s day, the best items that will receive the most savings are dresses, suits, perfumes and cosmetics. This is best time to try a new lip color or get a boost with a new mascara as all the counters are doing free gifts with purchase so get a lot for just a little.

As far as the actual Mother’s Day, try to make it as less hectic as possible by preplanning. As you know, all restaurants will be busy and cooking at home seems like a great option. However, before you decide to cook at home remember, the grocery stores will be packed as well and possibly out of traditional celebration foods. Also make sure you have a clear understanding of time and how long it will take you to put together the dinner vs. how much time you actually have. If cooking is not an option for you and you refuse to fight the traffic or wait in long lines at various restaurants, then opt for a Mother’s Day brunch. This is great way to have an intimate setting without all of the traffic or a lot of planning. Try your local hotels and museums to see if they need reservations and if they offer any special amenities for the holiday like jazz or flowers for mothers. Either way it goes, the key is in planning.

As with any holidays, try not to get stressed out. A great stress reducer is shopping which is great right now, so go ahead and take advantage of the Mother’s Day sales all for yourself.
