For the Love of Shoes

Awesome shoe

Shoes are one of the most wonderful inventions that were ever created by human hands. A simple swap of the shoes on your feet can change your style, your look, and your mood. Finding quality shoes that are stylish as well as affordable can be a bit tricky, but there are ways to navigate the sometimes tricky world of shoe shopping and come out on top.

Fabulous Fit: Sacrificing fashion for fit in just a flat out bad idea. (I should know. I spent last night sitting down in a pair of fabulous platforms that pinched my toes and prevented me from partying on the dance floor with my friends). Before you purchase a pair of shoes do a few laps around the store to get a real feel for the true fit of the shoes. It’s much better than being couch-bound at the club watching everyone else have the time of their lives on the dance floor.

Location, Location, Location: If you choose to order shoes online, make sure that you’re getting the best deals. Check out ShoeBuy.com  for excellent deals on boots, bridal shoes, sandals, slippers, sneakers, and just about anything else you can slip on your feet. The site offers free shipping, free return shipping, and no sales tax! And for a limited time you can get 10% off all purchases (code: ROADRUNNER).

Top Quality: Purchasing shoes that are constructed of inferior materials ensures that they will begin to look shabby much sooner than later. And that results in a waste of money. It’s best to splurge on a pair of well-made shoes that may cost a bit more, but will last for years to come. That, my friends, is smart shopping!

Summer Shoe Style Guide

Shoes! The word itself is synonymous with love, and joy, and everything that we hold dear. At least it seems that way sometimes. Summer brings with it a bounty of new shoe options, and as luck would have it, Payless Shoe Source offers summer shoes that are always stylish, sophisticated and on-trend. The company is even offering 20% off all orders until May 31. Not sure about which styles will work for you this season? Check out our summer shoe style guide for the latest and greatest options in summer shoes.

Wedges: Wedges are hot this season. They’re a little bit retro, oh-so stylish, and they give you great height while still offering support and comfort. (Bonus: The wedge will keep you from sinking into the grass at garden parties and outdoor weddings.)

Flats: They’re practical, comfortable, and cute. What’s not to love?

Strappy Sandals: Not only do they give you a chic look and a great boost in height, but they’re also the best way to show off that new summer pedicure.

Piperlime Browsing

I always gravitate back towards Piperlime when the weather gets warm. So many options, so little time! I have been trying my best to curb my shopping, but it's not easy when I have to race around looking for something to match all my spring things. Isn't it just easier to buy a pair of sandals that match with everything?

Thongsandals

On that note, here's what I found recently over at Piperlime when I couldn't resist...

The Super Strappy: Granted, these are not for everyone. To be honest, they probably won't even suit me, but I think that they are lovely, and I want them anyway. The Cynthia Vincent Adele sandal has the shape and the detail to make me swoon, and I think that you might like to try them with painted-on skinnies for night. Maybe in grey?

Little Menswear-inspired Shoes: I recently saw a pair of shoes like these worn with tapered jeans, and I was shocked that I loved them. Trust me, they look a lot better on, and you'll be totally surprised at how attractive they are with the usual additions. These are certainly a nice, lightweight pair of shoes for spring.

Twisty Sandals: Get a pair of unique shoes that look fabulous all by themselves. I have a leather pair of thong sandals that are perfect for wearing with body-conscious skirts and other additions, and they are not so dressy that I can't wear them everywhere I need to be. In fact, I just got a compliment on these in the doctor's office the other day!

Substantial Sandals: Wear sandals that demurely cover the ankle and employ a fun thong toe. These gorgeous sandals from Piperlime are on the top of my shopping list, because they are fresh and fun, without being boring. These lightweight shoes are good for outfits that need dressing up, but not with color.

Platforms: If I can look a lot taller and be super comfortable, why not? The platforms I found at Piperlime have plenty of bells and whistles, and they have a lovely, supple upper in leather, too. I love the metal details to bring together work-appropriate jewelry and accessories.

Barefoot Tess Selections

Barefoot Tess is a smart place to shop if you need to shop for shoes in larger sizes, including wider widths. From sandals to pumps, you'll be squaling with joy if you are an 11+. After I started checking out the site, I realized that they featured far more than I expected, but you'll need to scroll through a bunch of different designs to see which ones are offered in the size you need. It's kind of like a bigger, better DSW, and we know you'll love it!

What You Need to Check Out

Soft Suede Sandals

Soft sandals are always a smart pick, and suede is a good material for sandals in cooler climates. Slide on a comfortable pair of sandals with some nice straps and sweet soles, and wander around in your perfectly-fitting pieces that will really surprise you in their comfort, fit, and ability to match with all your cool styles.

Mini-Boots

Mini-boots are good to keep around for when the temperature drops, especially when you are due to go out and relax, but you can't bear to wear revealing summer styles now that the temperatures have dropped. Slip into smart tan choices with plenty of spots for aeration, or a pair of toeless mini-boots in a dusty black color.

Low-Heeled Pumps

Stay in a pair of heels that don't stress your poor feet, particularly when you are trying to relax in the summer and stay low-stress. Pull on leather pumps in a lighter colored leather or manmade fabric, and din't shy away from girly details like bows, ties, and flowers. Play around with those designs to find one that's totally you.

Sneakers

Toss on the sneaks when you're feeling lazy! While many people aren't interested in getting their sneaker self one (being one of the most maligned stylish out there, unfortunately!), you should take a browse through those hybrid styles that combine the look of fancier styles with the comfier athletic looks.

Unusual Slides

Mules, ballerina flats, slip-ons, ethnic sandals, and more! Have a look at some styles that you might not have ever imagined wearing until now. . . but that look just might surprise them in the end. While experimenting with colors is always recommended, a little style experimentation is never allowed.

Flats and More

Flat shoes are always a smart buy. How about one of these styles?

Newest Discovery for Heels.com

Heels.com was definitely "the" find of the week. It's cool and interesting to shop around, visually appealing, and pretty well laid-out for the casual visitor. I also happen to really like that pink and green combo, but that's another story altogether! Upon first glance, this site looks like it wouldn't be for the budget-concious girl, but it really is. All you need to do is starting shopping around, and you'll see.

MY TIPS

Why I Like It:

Besides all the reasons above, of course, this website has this interesting little feature where you can select brand and style. Although many sites like Zappos and Yoox have similar features, this one isn't the usual "column style" that always seems to be half-hidden and pretty difficult to browse. A simple click of any button allows you to head straight to your pick-- and this site continues with the easy organizational skills from there.

When you reach the next page, you'll have a variety of shoe-shopping shoes at your disposal in a new and inventive layout.

What's Cool:

While the easy-to-shop windows were my favorite, I also liked the young selection of the footwear on the site, which reminded me of another website Go Jane, but with a slightly larger selection. Each shoe is clearly photographed to give you a good idea of what you're buying, and I love the fact that there were deep discounts to be had.

Navigation Tips:

* Head to the shop with a good idea of what you want. It can be pretty overwhelming.
* Get familiar with the site and its search functions before purchasing. You could miss something!
* Always check out alternate color options in the pictured shoee. While they might be pictured in black, you could get them in another color if you remember to click through and see what is available.

Piperlime Spring Looks

I've been looking for new spring styles to flatter your hottest looks concocted for warm weather. I love the varied shapes available to all of us, from flats to pumps, not to mention some of the coolest colors I've seen in a while. Luxuriate in yellow suede, play twinkle-toes in beaded sandals, and enjoy the very best laced pumps this side of spring. Piperlime is an amazing resource for all of these, and more.

Pl56968200qlv01

(Kenneth Cole Reaction Rich N Hitched, $79.00)
These beautiful yellow shoes feature a high, thick strap and chunky heel shapes that defy all of your stiletto collection. Balance on these confidently with a gorgeous, wide peasant skirt and a fitted top when you go all-out, or try a simple pair of black capris for a basic crowd-pleaser.

Pl56404400qlv01_2
(Indigo by Clarks Pallino, $65.00) Flats are a must for any city dweller or hardcore commuter, but why are so many pairs so... not flattering? It's important to buy a pair that is trendy and that is a pleasing shape, just because they are noticed, even on the bus! This gray pair with a metallic twist blend in with pavement and grime, but are available in a pleasingly soft color to match with all of your spring florals.

Pl57854600qlv01

(Vince Camuto Palmer, $125.00)
Jeweled sandals can be more than a cocktail-party must have. You can slip on a pair of these delicate sandals with any dress or skirt and take it to the next level right away. Now that's an investment. The adjustable back strap keeps them on tight. Forget those shoddy elastic-strapped shoes and find a pair that really fit.

Pl58260602qlv01

(Vince Camuto Veronica, $132.00)
These are my favorite shoes so far! In fact, I just got a similar pair from Evans London today in brown and black. While these may seem very fashion-forward and therefore a little challenging, you can let them speak for themselves when you pair them with pencil skirts, classic dresses, and pegged capris. Enjoy all the complements you get while wearing them.

Pl56737600qlv01

(Naturalizer Roberts, $65.00)
Another yellow pair of shoes for you. Can you tell my favorite spring color? This pair has moccasin details and a softer lemon color for the more delicate ones among us. Excellent craftsmanship and detailing will make these shoes stand out significantly near similar styles, and you'll relish the attention they bring you.

Scooping Up the Shoes at Bluefly

One shopping tip for spring: the selection at Bluefly is amazing right now, especially if you're headed there for sandals! I headed over there for sandals and my jaw dropped. You can find sumptuous leathers, simple canvas, and easy suede, along with quite a few twists and turns.

I've listed my top picks below, but I know you'll find other options if you go over there and check it out. I recommend it if you're kitting yourself out for spring.

Prodimagems

Kate Spade Blue Animal Print Canvas Fleur Thongs

These thong sandals are very lively and sophisticated. The jeweled accent at the vamp is the perfect touch when you need to dress up for the weekend when you're on vacation.

Consider These Options: I would try this pair of sandals with a high-waist black skirt and soft halter top, a saucy sundress complete, or casual linen trousers.

Prodimagems_2
Giuseppe Zanotti Green Suede Jeweled Platform Wedges

These are sandals straight out of a fairytale, complements of Bluefly! The green suede straps zigzag across your toes and sparkle with delicate stones. This high, floral heel would look just amazing with a skirt to show it off. The open toe just begs for a pretty pedicure.

Consider These Options: Pegged jeans and capris would look great with these statement sandas.

Prodimagems_3
Bo'em Black Leather Pearl "Lucie" Thong Sandals

Pearl detail is gorgeous on spring and summer details. The softly pointed toe is a little dressier for special occasions held at summery locations like beaches and boats, and the hard leather sole is just right for heat and summer ocean spray because it's easily cleaned.

Consider These Options: Black trousers may be a giveaway, but they're no less tempting. If you need to dress these sandals up a tad, consider satin-trimmed wide leg trousers or a pair of simple shorts.

Prodimagems_4
Taryn by Taryn Rose Brown Suede Enlight Sandals

Rich and brown, these sandals have a handcrafted appearance, like a pair of sandals that you'd pick up at Cape Cod or somewhere similar. This creamy leather complete with thick metal studs is very tempting. I certainly couldn't resist!

Consider These Options: Jeans are a fantastic choice with these sandals for a casual feeling.

Prodimagems_5
Stuart Weitzman Red Gigham Jute Wedges

Fresh, young flats are a perfect pick for women who need a little bit more security for their footwear. If you can't wear sandals at work, or you hate chasing the kids around in them, these could be your savior.

Consider These Options: A sweet shirtdress could amplify that country chic appeal.

Cool Spring Shoes: Easy Bold Style

If there's something I really like, it's the bold shoe trend. If you're feeling down or you've just realized that your outfit is not very exciting and you have no time to change, consider a quick update with a pair of pumps in one of this season's coolest colors: bold turquoise, kelly green, and deep red and pink. Even with your most "blah" outfits, all of the sudden you'll be turning heads and drawing eyes straight towards you-- even if you're just out in the shop to grab a pint of milk. (It's even better that way!)

This week, I've turned my attention to Endless.com-- just like the name, I was getting together a pretty impressive list of "must-buys." Good thing my birthday is in two weeks! I thought that you might want to take a look at what I've found in my search over at Endless, and then continue on to do a little shopping of your own.

Mod Flats

<Mod Flats: These Materia Prima flats combine the best of both worlds with a cool, young flavor that's thankfully not jacked up on 5" heels. If you need shoes to walk to nearby locations and to pad around work with ease, these flats are the way to go.

Style Tip: Try these with capris or shorts to show them off.

Open-Toes Wedges

Open-Toes Wedges: The N.Y.L.A. Open Toed Wedge has an interesting shape that's sweet but still adds extra height. It's completely feminine and retro, and just what we need for the upcoming season! Slipping these on will give you a total boost.

Zingy Heels

Zingy Heels: The gold on the inside of these heels sold them for me. Cool multicolored leather strips wrap around these 3 1/2 inch heels with a classic shape and a less-than-expected clash of colors in orange, green, and blue.

Tapestry-Esque Heels

Tapestry-Esque Heels: Collect your feminine wiles and channel them into a shoe, these could very well be them. Floral and patterned to the hilt, they are just perfect. Faux patent trim along the cool decorative designs are positively perfect.

Theatrical Pumps

Theatrical Pumps
: Even your wildest dreams couldn't think these ones up. What a great take on this spring's pump trend! With a huge gem detail and totally peacock-ish colors, they're not for the faint of heart. But for whom they do rub the right way: you're in luck. They're also available in black and fuchsia.
