Cool Skirts and Designer Gear from eLuxury

I love eLuxury! I've been shopping at their site for a few years now, and it's rare that I head on there and don't find something to buy. I'm a huge fan of creative pieces, and eLuxury stocks lots of designer and celeb looks for less. With a little flair and plenty of brands to choose from, eLuxury is "it."

Robert Rodriguez Golden Bow Skirt

This skirt is oh-so-tempting. It's composed of linen and cotton, with a soft cotton lining, and pintucks along the top waistband seam. It has an easy glamour that may be best compared to your favorite sweats! This skirt has a roomy and cozy feel, but unlike your sweatpants, it's very stylish and avant-garde in color and style.

Ultra Sexy Mini with Metal Ball Chain Detail: What an intriguing piece. It's a good thing that denim skirts can hang around in your closet and are always in style, because you'll be getting your money's worth easily.

Michael Kors Washed Cotton Poplin Skirt:
Slouchy is fantastic for wearing-round-the-house or going out on casual outings. I particularly like this one, because it looks like it feels incredibly soft (which I like!) and could totally work for night in a pinch. I would try wearing my comfortable skirt with a button-down vest and a white tee. If I was feeling really daring, I might even go for espadrilles in warm weather.

Vince Pleated Pique Skirt: This casual skirt has major business potential for casual dress environments. Pleats are shapely, sexy, and refined, but a looser fit lets you slouch about no matter where you are. Try this with a lightweight top or something similar-- just make sure that it's on the fitted side.

Doo.Ri Runway Tiered Skirt: Mocha, latte, cappucino-- this dress is your quick fix for a cafe craving!

Shopbop.com for Spring Trends

Shopbop.com has got some great new spring selections in! All of these blue-green colors are looking oh-so-tempting right now, and when I went over there to do a little late-night shopping, I found pieces to fit in with every spring trend under the sun. You'll be very impressed, too-- check out what's current over at Shopbop.com.

When shopping for trends, you can get overwhelmed with what's "in" if you concentrate on separate pieces. Instead of getting bogged down with random jackets and dresses, try to find pieces that you can easily mix in with your current wardrobe, such as tunics that you can pair with jeans or dresses than stand alone with all your favorite pumps.

Bohemian Style

Yaya Aflalo dress

This Yaya Aflalo dress is not for those of us who are afraid of bright colors like pink and purple. You'll be feeling like the star of the show in this vibrant piece, even with a Bohemian vibe that helps set you apart. Solid satin banding is perfect for women with a tiny waist and a bust that they'd like to highlight.

Yfbaa2006415377_prod_medium

Is sweet and simple more your thing? I fell in love with this Kathleen Tunic from Young Fabulous & Broke. Subtle tie-dye spots go undercover across a crisp white canvas with just a sprinkle of lemon yellow at the upper yoke.

Retro Tones

DAVIS by Ruthie Davis Ford Peep Toe Pumps

These DAVIS by Ruthie Davis Ford Peep Toe Pumps fit the spring '70s trend so well. They're high--just right for a miniskirt come nighttime--and they've got a chrome metal two-tone detail that's as unusual as it is stylish. A new must-have.

Rock n Roll Vest from LaROK

A Rock n Roll Vest from LaROK is totally tempting. I'd love to see it paired with the non-trad version-- a skirt and a cute top instead of the usual trousers. But you know what else I'd like to see? This vest with a pair of tuxedo trousers. . . uh oh! Maybe I'll need to get two.

Feminine and Romantic Versions

Diane von Furstenberg Saffy Top

The Diane von Furstenberg Saffy Top is a deliciously feminine confection that you'll fall in love with for spring. I love it when trendy pieces are so attractive and cute. Shopping just gets so much easier. . . I'd wear this with light-colored blue jeans and strappy sandals.

Alice and Olivia Pleated Sleeveless Dress

This <Alice and Olivia Pleated Sleeveless Dress might be the last on my list, but it wil just get you started on a Spring/Summer trend search that might lead you to similar sources like Pink Mascara and more. Have a great time getting yourself kitted out for spring. ;)

Dereon Dresses Things Up

I went over to Dereon on one of my usual clothes shopping sprees, and I was surprised at what I found- new pieces with an extra bit of style, and in plus sizes, too! If you wear a larger size jeans or tops, you won't need to go to another location just to find a full-figured option--it's all right there. I like larger tops that a roomy, swingier shape, and those can be found at Dereon along with skinny jeans and low-cut trousers.

But you know what really helped me out over there? Their featured Style Mixer. If you're looking for a way to mix and match cool pieces that you've run into over at Dereon, you can slide the Collection button to find full looks and reduce your personal coordination time.

Heavy Metal jeans

Dereon Jeans: My Top Pick
My favorite jeans surprised me over at Dereon: I ended up adoring the Heavy Metal pair despite my usually classic style. With stitching and charm details, they're certainly not for the faint-of-heart, but they're just what you need when you're having one of those I-need-a-makeover-and-fast kind of days. It has silver stitching along the rear and above the pockets, as well as some heavy metal accessories that are interesting and tastefully added.

Tip: Imagine this with a black smock top complete with sash as well as killer heels.

Gold Rope Top

Amazing Blouse Alert!
Are you on the search for your best feature-- or your skinniest? This Gold Rope Top hows off a peek of skin on the side, under your bust, for an unusual little view that's both sexy and unexpected. It's available in both white and pink--I'm partial to the white myself for matching purposes.

Ded73306_wild_front

Featured Design: Band Fresh Hoody
I was surprised at the design elements going on with this Dereon sweat top. It's certainly unlike any of my other gym pieces, and it could make for a great present for teens, too.

Metallic elements jazz up an already cool sweatshirt that has logo engraved buttons and a peplum flounce. If pink isn't your style, you can try black instead. I can even imagine this top with a comfy woolen skirt.

Ds Zipper Chain Jumpsuit

Plus Piece: Jumpsuits!
I can't say that I've seen many jumpsuits designed for full-figured women, but I like that we have that option, thanks to Dereon's Ds Zipper Chain Jumpsuit. A hood and a square neckline frame your face-- and you can't beat a kangaroo pocket with Lurex details.

Let me know what you find over at Dereon. These may be my top picks, but I'd love to know what catches your eye.

Great Dress Shapes for Spring

Jpg_11704206_blue_h_pu

1. Try Them Swingy:
Easy shapes are a cool and simple way to add comfort and style to a spring look. Embrace bodice tops that hug your midsection and flare out against your hips, like a sweet shift from bygone days.

Tip: You can modernize a look like this easily with the right current colors. This season, try unexpected pinks and a cool blue like the featured Stretch Bow Dress above by Jean Paul Galtier.

2. Get Feminine Slim Shapes: Do you feel uncomfortable when you wear slim-fitting dresses? One way to make you feel more at ease is to choose a dress with creative strap lines. Thicker straps allow for layering of shapewear or a comfy bra, so you’ll feel supported and confident when you’re out and about.

Image1xl

3. Slip on Creative New Lines:
Look for pieces that push the boundaries. Are you the type who must wear a cardigan over her dress, or needs to for work? Consider a shaped jacket this spring, possibly in a cropped style to show off that waist! You can also go for slouchier shrugs with kimono or dolman sleeves if you like that look better.

Another option is simple layering for early spring. You can slip on a long-sleeved top under your dress, or buy it already layered for ease, like this Darimeya Layered Sleeve Circle Print Dress, above, from ASOS.com.

4. Find Cool Featured Elements:
Raw silk, painted-on flowers, and drawstring halter necklines are just new ways for you to explore fresh style this spring. From softer silhouettes to the ultra-modern, you’ll see that spring is here and very fashionable indeed.

Vi_11677770_h_pu

5. Pocket It:
Dresses with pockets may be unusual, but they’re oh-so-handy. When you slip your hands into roomy pockets that are easily filled with goodies, you’ll be giving yourself a treat—one more way to lighten the load on your purse!

The Vince Painte Brush Shift Dress, features deep, wide pockets that looks right at home. You can stuff your hands into your pockets as you sashay across the parking lot-- how novel--and perhaps even avoid carrying your usual clutch purse.

Top 7 Tips to Save Money When Budget Shopping

Shopping online can be perfect. Being able to sit at home, avoid the traffic, and do amazing price comparisons in seconds are just a few of the reasons why I adore shopping on the internet. I may love to dig up a bargain in local thrift stores, but in general I'm an online-exclusive girl.

But I've picked up a few tips along the way. As much as I love to browse eBay, hunt out bargains on Bluefly, and order household appliances over at Walmart, I know that it's easy to make a few mistakes and not save at all! In honor of a successful online shopping week, I'd like to save some tips with you on saving while budget shopping.

1. Try things out-- and be sure that you can make a return if necessary.

This can be tricky while shopping online, but it's possible. If you have found an online deal from a major local retailer, it can be worth to combine a stop with your errands and establish your size in that particular label. That way, you can take advantage of "No Return" Final Sales without the riskiness.

2. Small changes can work wonders.

Instead of sticking to "must have" labels, don't forget that you can always get lookalike pieces for less. Some great places to do your research is The Budget Fashionista, which lists deals and price comparisons, and Fabcrush, which sponsors weekly "Dealcrushes" that can save you half off a designer outfit.

Old Navy Orange Tees
These peach and orange colored confections from Old Navy are perfect deals and are just my color! They will match many of the spring items in my closet.

3. Decide what you need.

Clean out your closet before you buy major items. Choose pieces as your seasonal core wardrobe, and only purchase items that support this look. Don't forget that separates are your friends.

4. Don't get sold by a sale.

Sales are magical, but only when you play your cards right. Sale shopping isn't always perfect, especially when you're facing an unfamiliar brand and unfamiliar sizing. Instead of investing in pieces that may not fit, look for mid-priced items that can be returned.

5. Do your research.

Check out forums where people discuss their online shopping experiences. Avoid shops with negative reviews if you want to avoid the strife and pressure that comes along with shopping smart.

6. Know your colors and style.

Shop according to what looks best on you, and not what's the cheapest. Sales tees can be great, but if they are all electric pink and banana yellow, you may want to head to regularly-priced items that will end of saving you money when you consider the "cost per wear" factor.

7. Make a list.

Make a little list at the beginning of each season, and keep it by your computer. That way, if you get a tempting sales email or a tip from a friend, you can guide your shopping and cross an item off your list.

Sick of Ebay?

There are a select few among us that buy a few more clothing items than we really should. Luckily, we're limited in number. (Yeah, right....!)

Truthfully, the fact of the matter is that quite a few of us have at least one item hanging in our closet that has been worn a grand total of one time. Or never. Some people haven't even removed the tags yet.

As a result, our closets are bulging to capacity with items that no longer fit us, items we no longer care for, or items we simply no longer wear for any of a wide variety of reasons. And it's not just clothes. It's like-new condition shoes, purses, and accessories as well.

When we always seem to have more clothes than closet space, what are we supposed to do with this stack of fashion goods? Many people donate the items to their local Goodwill, thrift store, or charity. And this is a perfectly viable way to go. There's also the added bonus of being able to deduct the donation on your taxes.

But if you want the cash in hand right away, where can these pristine pieces go? Some people go the garage sale route. But people go into garage sales with a certain expectation about prices. If you're okay selling that band new 100% silk Ann Taylor skirt for $1, a garage sale is a great way to unload clothing fast. If you want to hold out for better prices, you may have to search for another option.

That alternate option for the technologically savvy masses seems to be Ebay. But with all the listing fees, picture fees, and Paypal taking a cut of the final sale, you can sell an item and still end up wondering where all your cash went at the end of the day.

So...if you want to earn a decent return on your items and avoid the fee gouging, here are a few alternate sites that might lighten your closet but fill up your wallet.

Craigslist.com
-Pros: No fees to join or list an item, and you're able to post up to four pictures.
-Cons: Ad only lasts a week, meaning you must repost often if the item doesn't sell right away. Also, both buyers and sellers can be flaky, so you must constantly be on the alert for fraud (especially wire scams). Able to haggle with the seller for a more desirable price.

PersonalCloset.com
-Pros: No fees to join or list an item. Able to post one picture.
-Cons: Relatively new site, so the minimal traffic means your item might not sell right away. Ad doesn't expire, so you don't have to keep reposting. Able to haggle with the seller.

Base.Google.com
-Pros: No fees. Able to add a picture. Ads last up to thirty days.
-Cons: Base.google is a very new site. Hasn't yet gained the exposure necessary to create a wide variety of items with a wide variety of prices. But seeing as it’s affiliated with Google, it just seems like a matter of time…

Whatever method works for you, it's a major benefit to clear out that fashion "deadwood." After all, you've got to make room for the new stuff somehow!

Good luck, and happy shopping...and selling.

Spring is in the Air

Aaah, the wonderful smell of spring…the scent of flowers beginning to bloom, the sound of birds chirping, making their way back from their winter resort, the vision of green growing everywhere…in places that for months looked barren. Yes, spring is here and it is just the time to hit the mall! You can't help it. The bright spring sun makes you want to immediately change your wardrobe. You smile as you think of sunny yellow tank tops and bright blue sandals paired with crisp white Capri's. Every where you look department stores are advertising their new spring lines. Dillard's and Macys, Saks and Penney's are all vying for your attention at their bright colored ensembles with their happy Easter-time models making you feel inspired to go outside and play in your own new spring/summer wardrobe. Yes, it is time to shop…but not for spring and summer-it's time to take advantage of the winter clearance items.

While the sales ads and circulars are promising deals on brightly colored springtime clothing, they are really not that great of deals. However, the deals are in the back of the stores where right now all stores are having winter blow out sales, they just aren't advertising them. This is the time that you can go and stock up on your sweaters and wool pants, scarves and hats, all of your winter essentials for more than 60% off. Veer away from the minute 10 % off sales on white pumps and airy spring time dresses and go for the gusto in the back of the store with the darkly colored thick winter ensembles. Now remember, you will have to search the racks for the items that you want. They will not be neatly displayed like the spring/summer items in the front, nor will you get a lot of assistance locating the right sizes; however, the pricing is well worth the sacrifice. Make a mental note of the winter items that you never had during the season and shop for those things to be prepared for next year. Don't forget about coats. Many times you can find some of the best, most expensive over coats for little or nothing at the change of the season. Want a mink? Think mink this spring! As Christmas is over and the season is long gone, many retailers are trying to let go Christmas returns and overstocks, this is the time when you can probably make a deal.

Start checking your computer for sales on boots; forget about sandals for now as you boost up your winter wardrobe without the thick winter blanket prices. Ask sales associates if they have any boots in the stock room in the back, they are usually more than 50 % off by now. Take advantage of spring by shopping for winter.

Low Down on First Date Dress Up

A first date can be a downright nerve-wracking experience, but it becomes even more stressful if you can't decide what to wear. When you've already got the first date jitters, there's really nothing worse than sitting in front of the mirror and testing (and subsequently rejecting) everything in your closet.

But if you keep these important tips in the back of your mind, it might just help reduce some of those pre-date nerves.

#1: Make sure you know exactly what you're doing or where you're going.
For example, wearing a miniskirt and stilettos for a mile-long stroll around the park is going to make the date awfully uncomfortable (not to mention painful).
If you feel comfortable in what you're wearing, you've got a better chance of being comfortable overall.

#2: Determine what type of persona you want to portray
Of course, you always want to be yourself. That's paramount. But you also have to realize that "yourself" has many different facets. There's the professional self, sophisticated self, fun self, flirty self, etc.
Decide what you want the mood of the date to be, and create that tenor through your outfit.

#3: Don't portray a misleading persona
If you know that plunging necklines or short, short skirts aren't who you are, embrace that about yourself. Some people fall into the common first-date trap of trying to be something that they're not-something they just think the other person wants them to be.
There are numerous ways people do this (consciously and not), and the way you dress is a big part of that.
Be yourself from the very first date, and it will be better for everyone involved.

#4: Dress to impress
Remember this is your first impression, and you should take to heart what every interview coach has ever told you: you only get one chance at a first impression.
So unless it's the vibe you want to portray, avoid the sweats and stained sweatshirt for date number one. (It's really more of a seventh date kind of thing anyway…)

#5: Don't immediately run out and buy something new
Even if you find yourself rejecting everything in your closet in disgust, don't be so quick to dash out and buy something new.
Reason number one-impulse buys are never a good idea. You'll probably end up spending too much on something you don't even really want anyway.
But more importantly, reason number two-new clothes (especially something like shoes) can be really uncomfortable the first time you wear them. If you're busy thinking about how much your new pumps pinch your toes, you're not very likely to be giving your date the attention he deserves.

And, of course, clothes don't matter one iota compared to being yourself and having a good time. (Dressing up just happens to be fun…)

Good luck, and happy shopping!

Being Smart About Retail Therapy

We've all had those days. The days when everything has gone wrong, or you break up with your significant other, or you had a particularly hard day at work. You decide to go to the mall or your favorite store to indulge in a little shopping to make you feel better. Shopping tends to boost your mood, and buying something you enjoy generally makes you feel better.

If you feel guilty about your retail therapy shopping trips, you shouldn't. Unless it has developed into a shopping compulsion or it is getting you into financial trouble, an occasional retail therapy shopping trip is okay, and can actually help you improve your mood. You just have to be realistic about what you can spend and if you find yourself heading to the mall after every single negative thing that happens, then you need to re-assess your spending habits.

The things that people tend to buy during retail therapy are often called "comfort buys." This means that it is something you buy to comfort yourself. The most popular items are clothing, lingerie, lotions, jewelry, accessories, books, massages or other similar items. The key is to find something that will make you feel better, but not necessarily cost a fortune. While some people prefer a new shirt or some body lotion that smells heavenly, others find that getting a massage or a pedicure is just the ticket. Pampering yourself in some small way is what retail therapy is all about.

So the next time you feel down in the dumps and are considering a trip to the mall, give yourself permission to do it. Indulge in all of the things you really enjoy about shopping, such as being around other people, taking the time to browse through your favorite store, or buying something frivolous that you don't actually need but simply want.

By giving yourself permission to do it, you will spend less money and still get that little pick-me-up that you were looking for.

By enjoying the experience of shopping just as much as the actual purchase, you will also save money.

By limiting your retail therapy experiences to those days when nothing else will make you feel better, your retail therapy spending will not get out of hand, and you will really enjoy it when you do decide it is time to shop.

One Outfit for Every Occasion

With a schedule that’s packed to over-packed every single day, a busy girl simply doesn’t have time to dash home every few seconds to change her outfit. That’s why the following is one of the essential lessons for a productive but devilishly fashionable lady—how to make your outfit last you all day long.

Anybody with multiple tasks on her plate knows the outfit she intends to wear to the office doesn’t always work for her pre-work errands, after-work running around, and her late night rendezvous at the club/restaurant/bar.

However, follow these simple tips, and you’ll find one outfit can have a whole lot of mileage in it…

-The Shoes
So everyone knows the shoes make the outfit. But what happens when your work shoes also make your feet scream for mercy as you’re cruising down the grocery aisles?
Some women think the only solution is bearing through the pain or running home and changing. Neither of these is necessary when there are two major solutions to this problem.
Solution one—stick to kitten heels or slides. They can still be fashionable, cute, and work appropriate, but they’re not torture for your toes after five minutes. It’s easy to run a few quick errands in these almost-flats without sacrificing the fashion element.
Solution two—keep a backup pair of shoes conveniently located in your car. Dress to impress at work with those arch contorting stilettos, but when the workday winds down, sneakily slip into your sneakers. If you always have them in your car, you can pop them on quickly and be on your errand-running way.
Also, keep in mind they don’t have to be ratty tennis shoes with holes in the bottom and mud caked to the side. They can still be fashionable. Just make sure they’re also comfortable.

-The Layered Look
You never want to be that woman in the office that dressy a little too risqué for the 9 to 5 grind. But what if you’re headed to a club right after work? This is where layering can really shine.
Go ahead and dress in that neck plunging, form fitting top, but make sure it’s covered by a nice tailored suit jacket (preferably buttoned). Once the workday is over, discard the jacket and flaunt your fashionable wares.
Just remember that modesty is always a good rule of thumb for the workplace. You never want to dress too revealing.
So, even if you’re really set on wearing a miniskirt to the club, keep in mind that doesn’t mean it works in the office.
Just as with shoes, store a change of clothes in your car if you can’t easily cover up and don’t want to run all the way home to change.

-Night and Day Makeup
There is a world of difference between the face you want to present to your boss and the face you want to present to your fellow bar-hoppers. And your makeup needs to reflect that.
For the workplace, stick to toned down, dominantly neutral colors. Go easy on the eye shadow or blush or anything that’s too flashy or obvious. Less is always more when you’re going for a professional look.
However, that doesn’t mean you want your club look to be so demure. It’s (more than) okay to go for that bold, drastic smoky eye for all your after-work escapades.
Just take a small kit of makeup essentials with you to work. At the end of the day, pop into the bathroom and transform yourself from professional to party before heading to your car.

The important thing to remember is there should always be a marked difference in the way you dress for work and after-work. But you can achieve that difference through very subtle changes to the same outfit and accessories.

Don’t Get Cold Feet

Snuggle Up in Warm, Cozy Clothing and Brave the Weather This Season

It is true that many people sleep longer, feel more tired and have a general lack of concern about outside activities during the winter months. And this includes shopping. Scientist say that the shorter winter days and cold harsh winds of winter causes severe cases of depression in most Americans. That along with the lack of attractiveness in bulky snowman shaped clothing is enough to keep us in the house from January to mid March.

The sheer fear of getting cold feet, or someone catching us in our big ugly parka is easily fixed with just a few shopping tricks. But first, you must conquer your case of ‘cold feet’ and go ahead and get out of the house. A nice, brisk winter shopping day can do wonders for a deleted winter spirit. In actuality, winter sun is actually brighter and bright summer-like colors in these cold months will give you that boost of energy you need.

One of the main reasons people do not do much winter clothing shopping is because they don’t go out much in those months; not to mention, the bulky shapeless style is all but appealing. But yet, choosing the right options for yourself in cold weather with more vivid colors will do amazing fashion tricks. Remember, there is no need to spend a lot of money on this short lived icy season; however, do invest in warm, but yet form fitting pieces that can mix and match all season long.

As always, the first step in our shopping series is to either find a sale, good bargains, or hit discount chains. With this in mind, try Old Navy first for their warm and cozy performance fleece. Remember, do not buy a larger size thinking that you will layer each piece and will need the extra space. That is not necessary, nor is it attractive. As always, you want your shape to show through, not the abominable snowman’s. At Old Navy, there is a large inexpensive selection of brightly colored warm and cozy items all for under $25. Don’t forget to purchase matching scarves, hats and gloves to pull of your ever –so fashionable winter wonderland ensemble. Another place that I might suggest to pick up great winter pieces with excellent prices is the Maxx. That’s right, T J Maxx! From reduced priced designer coats to must-have winter accessories, the Maxx will have it, and without spending department store prices.
What color best complements the icy hues? Think pink! A perfect calming color that gives a feeling of love and warmth, try pink cashmere for an ultra relaxed and chic look and feel. Instead of drab winter color coats in brown, olive and black, swing for a perfectly tailored pink coat with a cinched waist.

If the weather outside is too dreadful, don’t settle for ‘rainy day blues’, instead cuddle up under a bright-hued throw in such warm colors as tangerine that reminds you of the sunshine. For $55 keep yourself from developing cold feet with heated, lavender-scented bootie set that gives warmth to tired and achy feet from redenvelope.com. While lounging in the house on a snow day, no one can resist pink bunny slippers from Kits ‘n Kaboodle now available from http://www.warmwhiskers.com. Follow these steps and you will be a winter wonder in style and attitude this season!

Belated Shopping Resolutions

Sure, it’s already the middle of January. But it’s never too late to examine our lives and try to make changes for the better. With that attitude in mind, here are a few of my belated shopping resolutions for the 2007 year.

-I resolve…to never make a purchase without some sort of discount. This resolution might seem a little extreme, but the more I search online and offline for discounts, the more I realize how many are out there available for the taking. At any given time there are thousands of sales, promotional codes, coupons, free shipping, and other various types of discounts waiting to be taken advantage of. I’ve learned that if I’m paying full price, I’m paying too much.

-I resolve…to sell everything I don’t wear. If you’re like me, your closet is full to bursting, and half the items don’t fit anymore, are out of style, or go unused for a million other various reasons. My mom always had a rule—if you haven’t worn it in six months, you’re never going to wear it. And I’m continually surprised how accurate that rule proves to be. So try giving back to all those websites you usually buy from. Sell on Craigslist.com or even give Ebay.com a try.

-I resolve…not to buy anything new until I’ve worn everything I own at least once. As a borderline shopaholic (the first step is admitting you have a problem…), this is one way to curb some of my spending tendencies. And sifting through my closet is almost as good as shopping, because there are so many things I forget I even have. Plus, I find all sorts of new, creative ways to pair items and make previously unrealized outfits.

So go forth and examine your shopping life. And always remember, it doesn’t matter if it’s January 1 or the second week in March, you can always formulate some new and creative shopping resolutions.

Happy shopping!

Shopping—A Social Affair or a Solo Gig?

Many times, men are baffled as to why women love to shop so much. And it’s understandable why they would be confused. Every man I’ve ever shopped with goes inexplicably morose and lethargic the second he steps into a mall.

Yet what men often fail to realize is that shopping is in large part social networking. There’s just something alluring about tooling around the mall with your good friends. But is it always fun and games? Or to put it directly, should you shop with your friends?

Anyone that answers with a resounding “yes” would probably argue that it’s more fun to shop with someone else. And, granted, that’s true. But what about all the downsides?

Shopping with friends can quickly lead to serious delays…like you look down at your watch and realize it’s already 5 PM kind of delays. And that’s not bad in and of itself, but you should always be aware that shopping with others is going to slow you down. If you have the whole day to devote to shopping and hanging out, it shouldn’t be a problem. But if you think you’re going to shop for “just a few hours” and head home, think again.

Shopping with friends can also lead to irrational decisions that seriously deplete your wallet. Yes, those friends are fun to shop with, but they also cause you to spend more money than you would have alone. While we tend to show some restraint by ourselves, it’s hard to pass on an item after hearing gushing reviews and a chorus of “you look so cute!” Also, when you’re with other people, you’re much more likely to buy something…anything in fact…just so you don’t feel like the day was wasted.

So if you’re in a serious rush or want to cut back on spending, perhaps the mall is not the best place to be spending time with friends. This is not to say cutting mall time out of your schedule completely is necessary, but just be aware when it might be beneficial to fly solo.

New Year, New Sexy

As the new year of 2007 has made its way, we say goodbye to the old ways of yesteryear. The old style, that is. Last year, 2006 brought back the fun, everything goes, punk ways of the 80’s. Although fun and festive, colorful and happy, the 2006 trends of creating the ‘new 80’s’ lacked one prominent feature that all women crave in their wardrobe…sexiness. That’s right, I said it, we all want to be sexy. That is whether we are young or let’s just say a tad bit older, trendy or classic; we still crave to have some form of real sex appeal. So viva 2007! This year’s style trend will be the return of sexy!

For 2007 remember get the magic back to your clothing, or quite simply romance your wardrobe. This is the time to put your most feminine foot forward. Create a charming New Year wardrobe with spicy mixes of vintage lace, more soft subtle and charming colors like rose and cream, accented with sugary golds. Think romantic tops and accessorize with sparkling metallic colors for a more mature and vivacious look. Remember, 2007 is truly about being the girly-girl, so if it’s really in you it’s time to really show off your sweetly seduction and charming side. Girlier items are staples in this year’s wardrobe such as bows and sashes, ribbons and lace-- all this year’s hottest items.

Now when shopping don’t hesitate to pick an item that will show a little skin. Opt for large boat neck blouses to show off just an inking of one shoulder. If that’s not your style, dare yourself to try a lace blouse with a large front or back keyhole to show off even more skin; however, in a very tasteful and demure look. This New Year, get a new you all dolled up in the hottest trends right now of classic white form-fitting shirts with classic style dark jeans. And immerse yourself in frilly tops; poet blouses one shoulder shirts and crisp classic pants and jeans.

To make the most out of your shopping budget, look online in places like eBay and Amazon that sale high-end clothing for discount prices. There is no need to over-spend on your New Year wardrobe. Although pricier stores like Bluemarine, Betsey Johnson and Juicy Couture are front liners in the new romantic style, you can achieve the same sexy look from less expensive stores such as Charlotte Russe, Victoria’s Secret Online and Forever 21.

Nothing says new and sexy like a ruffled shirt with a pencil skirt. Say goodbye to the ultra low hugging waistlines and opt for the more sexy and sophisticated high waist skirts and pants. While you are updating and romanticizing your wardrobe do not forget to accessorize. It is impossible to achieve the total romantic look without waist-cinching belts in sexy metallics or snake skins along with small sophisticated clutch bags that coordinate with either earrings or belts, and of course, sexy heels. Say hello again to the heeled pumps, flats are not a part of this prissy wardrobe. However, the type of heel is purely up to you. Whether you pick wedge, or stiletto, kitten heels or thick stacked heels—they are detrimental to the overall sexiness that is presented.

As women we are all sexy in our own style. However, this New Year can bring about a more vivacious and jazzy you.

Top Three Biggest Shopping Mistakes

Shopping can be extremely fun, but it can also be dangerous territory. Luckily, believe it or not, there are actually rules out there to stop you from making major shopping mistakes.

The following is a short list of common shopping blunders that will cost you your hard earned time and money.

Shopping Blunder #1: Buying Gift That Are (Too) Personal
When you’re buying gifts, unless you really know that person, it’s best to keep the gifts general. Clothes, for example, are extremely hard to buy for other people, because fashion is so personal. Plus, you never know if they’re going to fit. The same goes for shoes. Items on the safe list? Gift certificates, lotion and/or bath sets, music, DVDs, and books.

Shopping Blunder #2: Leaving it to the Last Minute
People do foolish things when they’re rushed and panicked. If you leave shopping until the last minute, you’re much more likely to buy just any old thing you see. So here’s my mathematical formula for the day—the likelihood of having to return an item goes up exponentially with the degree of frenzy with which you bought it. Give yourself some time to think, and your purchases will improve. But if you’ve got a particularly hectic schedule (and who doesn’t) it can be hard to get out to the stores. And it can be darn near impossible to get out to the stores early. So for all you busy shopper, try online shopping. No commute, no parking, no lines.

Shopping Blunder #3: Getting Sucked in by Sales Signs
Sometimes sales seem like such a good deal you can’t possibly pass them up. But they can also sucker you into buying things you don’t really need. After all, just because a toaster is half off, doesn’t mean you don’t have a perfectly fine toaster at home.

Always remember, even a little money spent on something you won’t use is still money wasted.

Mom and Pop or Dollars and Cents?

No matter who you are or how much you make, you still want to save money when you shop. So at some point in your life, you’ve probably been presented with this quandary: mom and pop or dollars and cents? But what does that question mean exactly?

It’s really quite simple. Smaller, privately run and operated shops are often known as “mom and pop” stores. They tend to be community-based and personal, but they also tend to be expensive. Big chain department stores have the reputation of being cheap, but bad for the community. (Just think of all those small town protests against implementing certain mass chains.)

So we’re back to the original question. Do you save money or support small business? Unfortunately, there’s no easy answer. When all is said and done, it depends largely on your own financial situation.

If they can afford it, many people try to frequent small businesses as often as possible. But people should not be scared away from these stores assuming their prices are astronomically high. Are they more expensive? Yes. Are they unreasonable? No.

In fact, some people prefer smaller stores even without a sizable income, because they provide services such as 100% organic food.

But then again, smaller stores often don’t have the range of options available in larger retailers.

And so goes the argument. Just when one position looks persuasive and promising, another point makes you think otherwise.

So how do you decide? Always keep the golden rule of shopping in mind: do your research. Whether you’re in the market for an item or just browsing, find out what’s the highest quality, what’s the best price, and determine who you want to support with your money. Only after you’ve taken all these factors into consideration should you make your final purchase.

No Reason to Frown

The holiday season is almost at a close as I write this. The fantastic before-and-after shopping deals are coming to an end as the old year is finished. However, there is no reason to be crying in your leftover egg nog as you pack away your holiday decorations, send the kids back to school (yay!) and get on with the business of starting up a new year.

Along with the bright possibilities of a new year, it also brings in the great end of winter sales. All of the stores, both online and offline are busy getting rid of the last bit of winter merchandise to make room for the new spring lines. This, of course, seems a bit ridiculous to me since here in the Wild West, winter will continue to last until at least April. However, once the spring thaw finally sets in, those cute spring clothes and accessories are going to start looking pretty good. But what to do until you can actually wear sandals without stepping into slushy left-over snow piles?

As my mother always says, "Anytime is a good time to go shopping!" She is right, and I come by my shopping gene naturally. I am pretty sure that my daughter got that female shopping gene as well, because she is seven going on seventeen and owns more pairs of shoes that I do. But that is a whole different shoe blog of another color.

To make the time until you can begin wowing your friends, family members and co-workers with your fantabulous taste in spring clothing, you can continue to shop those end of the winter sales. Overstock.com has great deals on both wardrobe staples and those clothes that you wanted to buy but were a bit daunted about the price. Even great sites like Amazon.com are giving deals on all their toys, books, movies, clothing, shoes(!), and all of the other categories they sell. If you time it right, now is the time to clean up on things that you wanted but didn’t buy yet for some reason or another.

Of course, what makes it even better is that all of the sites that are getting rid of their remaining winter stock are also willing to make great deals available. After all, if they don't sell in now, chances are it will just sit around taking up space in some warehouse somewhere! Great deals on shipping, extravagant price cuts and other ways to save can be found at nearly every site, or you can get steals using online coupon codes. So stave off those feelings of post-Christmas depression by doing a little shopping therapy. You'll be glad you did!
